Woodblock illustrated book, "Wakan no Homare ( Illustration of Honorable Anecdotes of Japan and China)" by Hokusai (1760-1849). This book is late impression of the Kaei 3 (1850) edition which printed with less couple pages and without light gray color blocks compared with completed first edition of Tenpo 5 (1836). This book contains the title page (missing the illustration single page of Chinese children), 2 preface pages, 2 single illustrated pages and 28 double illustrated pages.

Condition: First 5 pages with a small worm hole at the top borders, paper are rather light browned,
a few pages with soiled top borders and re-bounded with strings.
Note: This "Wakan no Homare" is Hokusai's most impressive warrior-designs appear in this volume of the trilogy. The Tenpo first edition in 1836 seems to have been held up by the Tempo Famines, and the book may well have been published only over a decade later. Same Kaei edition book in the collection of Metropolitan Museum of Art (JIB110), early Kaei edition with light gray blocks in the collection of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (#2007.463), Tempo edition book is in the collection of Philadelphia Museum of Art (#1947-34-38) but somehow printed in Meiji era (late 19th century).
